Maca Latte Elixir

What is an elixir? Elixir's are essentially herbal teas sweetened in the form of a warm latte. They have picked up steam in replace of coffee, and are typically used for health or diet benefits that support natural energy, fertility, or vegan, paleo and clean diets.

What is maca powder? Maca, not be confused with the popular green tea macha, is a superfood that comes from the Peruvian ginseng root and can be purchased in powder form for lattes. I buy the Navitas Organic Maca Powder on Amazon. There are many health benefits that I've heard about that positively impact you including energy, fertility, libido, mood, skin, and memory. The beauty in maca powder to me, however, is the instant energy boost that you'll feel from it. Try it - it's real! Maca has a bitter kick to it, and because of that you will want to add ingredients to compliment it like nut milk, cacao powder, honey, and vanilla.

What does this maca latte taste like? This warm beverage, in replace of coffee, is some blend of a golden "turmeric" latte, a coffee latte, and a hot cocoa. The taste is magical and packs a punch. It feels like a treat and I love sipping it slowly.

INGREDIENTS

1-1/2 cup almond milk or coconut milk

1-1/2 Tbsp. cacao powder or cocoa powder

1 Tbsp. maca powder (from the ginseng root, not macha green tea)

Pinch ground cinnamon

Pinch cayenne powder

Pinch freshly cracked black pepper

1/2 tsp. turmeric powder

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1/2-1 Tbsp. honey or natural sweetener of choice (coconut sugar, stevia, pure maple syrup)

INSTRUCTIONS

Whisk together all ingredients in a medium saucepan over medium-low heat. Heat through, whisking occasionally, until hot or very warm. Whisk vigorously right before serving for a foamy top.
